The writing portion of the Naturalization interview is an oral test and the USCIS Officer will dictate to you one sentence at a time. If you do not write the sentence in a way that is understandable as written to the USCIS Officer, he or she will dictate to you another sentence to write. You will have up to three tries to write down one correct sentence. The official vocabulary that is used to construct the sentances is available at the USCIS website.

Note: You will not be failed because of spelling, capitalization, or punctuation errors unless the errors would prevent understanding the meaning of the sentence.
Here you can access the Civics and History audible sample sentences that you can practice writing. The sentences are divided into two categories:
  1. The 37 sentences that were reported by our visitors that took the New Naturalization Test. These are actual sentences that people were asked to write during their naturalization interview.
  2. The 48 sentences that were provided by USCIS for the Old Naturalization Test. Some of these sentences are used for the New Naturalization Test as well.
